Editing is WOW!

So, I have started the first big initial edits on the book, and they are going okay, but they are way tougher than the first draft!  For the first draft, you just sit down and start writing… it kind of flows onto the page, and you just go with it.  I watched the story twist and turn and I was the guide.

But, now I get to take the reins.  I am moving stuff, changing people, throwing out parts that don’t make sense, adding in dialogue to move the story along, and just trying to make my book something people will want to read.  It’s hard!  you have to maintain the integrity of your story while shredding it, pulling it, and stretching it!

One of the hardest parts I have had to get rid of so far is my opening scene.  I love my opening scene, not because it’s particularly good writing, and not because I think it is pivotol the story, but because it was the first thing I wrote!  It makes me sad to think it will be disappearing from my story, but I think it needs to go! I am debating posting it here… and maybe I will, but for now, I am going to go and do a sad dance with my little opening scene… we need some alone time.
